British Airways cancels almost all flights due to BALPA strike

British Airways, via its official Twitter account, confirmed (08-Sep-2019) the British Airline Pilots Association's (BALPA) planned industrial action will proceed on 09/10-Sep-2019. The airline stated: "Unfortunately, with no detail from BALPA on which pilots would strike, we had no way of predicting how many would come to work or which aircraft they are qualified to fly, so we had no option but to cancel nearly 100% our flights". The disruption is expected to cost the airline around GBP80 million in losses (Bloomberg, 08-Sep-2019). British Airways added it remains "ready and willing" to return to talks with BALPA.
