Boeing won't completely dismiss possibility of new engines for B737NG

Boeing Commercial Airplanes VP of Marketing, Randy Tinseth, confirmed the company is still looking at the possibility of fitting new engines to the B737NG but it is not its main focus when considering the future of its narrowbody aircraft programme (LARAnews.net, 09-Mar-2011). Boeing believes it could improve fuel-burn efficiency by 11-12% with new engines, but is leaning towards an all-new aircraft, as to overall benefit of reduced fuel burn is cut by the cost of new engines and maintenance. Boeing is due to announce which direction its narrowbody programme will take around mid-year.
