Boeing joined the first set of composite wings to the centre fuselage of the initial 777-8F, after beginning wing assembly at the Composite Wing Center in Everett in mid-2025, and had planned to wind down metal-wing 777F production in late 2027 as 777-8F output ramped up1. Boeing also sought a US DOT emissions exemption to keep selling 777Fs beyond 31-Dec-2027, citing a gap until the more fuel-efficient 777-8F became available2.
