BARA executive director: 'Demand has been remarkably resilient'

Board of Airline Representatives of Australia (BARA) executive director (ED) Stephen Pearse, speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Australia Pacific, stated (28-Jul-2026) BARA currently has 44 member carriers, noting: "Demand has been remarkably resilient". Mr Pearse continued: "As a result of the Middle East crisis there has been an adjustment in how flows have balanced into and out of Australia, but when you zoom out on a macro basis, the demand is still strong". He added: "Some carriers have had more impact from fuel supply, and they have tended to adjust services more than others who have managed to better weather the increase in airfares required to recover cost".
