Azul president: 'We really want both United and American on our board'

Azul president Abhi Shah, speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Americas, stated (27-May-2026) the LCC "uniquely" had support from both United Airlines and American Airlines to exit from Chapter 11, noting: "Each of them will be the single largest individual owners of Azul, at about 8%". Mr Shah stated: "They have equal rights and everything. In terms of the governance, they each have a seat on what we call a strategy committee, which looks at things like fleet and the business plan". He noted Azul has codeshare and loyalty partnerships with United and will engage in commercial partnerships with American Airlines once the carrier's antitrust immunity approval occurs. Mr Shah added: "The idea is to really be partners with both", noting: "We really want both United and American on our board as part of the governance of Azul to help us execute this business plan".
