Azul president: Exit from Chapter 11 was a 'much needed reset'

Azul president Abhi Shah, speaking at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Americas, stated (27-May-2026) the LCC's exit from Chapter 11 was "a transformation" for Azul and a "much needed reset". Mr Shah said: "We tried several times to restructure out of court since the pandemic and in all of them, while the restructurings worked, we didn't have enough runway to recover from those restructurings". He continued: "We found ourselves growing just to try and outrun our balance sheet and we were just growing to pay off massive interest and debt burdens and aircraft fleet costs from years in the past, which is not sustainable".
