Avinor and Norwegian Coastal Administration: Oslo Airport to reach capacity by 2030

Avinor and Norwegian Coastal Administration published (29-Feb-2016) Norway's 'National Transport Plan 2018-2029'. The report confirmed Oslo Airport will reach its capacity by 2030 and planning for a third runway 'should start now'. Other highlights include:

  • Forecast of +15% passenger traffic by 2029;
  • Freight +20% by 2029;
  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, with lower taxes on electric vehicles and introduction of subsidies;
  • Increased investment in freight, especially with subsidies for goods by sea and more efficient surface transport links;
  • NOK60 billion (USD7 billion) investment in roads, rail and coastal infrastructure;
  • 'Intelligent Transport Systems' investment and development;
  • Increased implementation of RPAS, self driving cars and remote tower services at airports.

The report also confirmed Finland, Russia, Sweden and Norway are in discussions regarding the development of 'cross-border relations', involving 'freight corridors' and potential passenger service agreements. [more - original PR - Norwegian]
