The US regional air travel sector has experienced a steady decline, with over 800 regional routes cancelled since 2000, mainly due to pilot shortages and ageing fleets. ATR highlighted that replacing 50-seat regional jets with its turboprops could reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions by at least 30%, and argued that modern turboprops are well suited to regenerating connectivity and reopening underserved routes in the US market1.
