American Airlines to lay off up to 175 pilots, to resume talks with flight attendants

American Airlines reportedly plans to lay off up to 175 pilots, 2% of its 7,800 pilots, in 1H2010, due to its lower capacity growth plans, with 80 pilots to be furloughed at the end of Feb-2010 (Tulsa World, 22-Jan-2010). Meanwhile, the National Mediation Board announced (21-Jan-2010) the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) and American Airlines must meet on 27-Feb-2010 to resume lockdown negotiations for five days after 11 unsuccessful consecutive days of bargaining.
