American Airlines parent reports USD728m operating loss in Dec-2011

American Airlines parent, AMR Corp, reported (31-Jan-2012) an operating loss of USD728 million and a net loss of USD904 million in Dec-2011, the first monthly operating report as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company attributes the net loss to a total of USD725 million in special charges including an impairment charge of USD713 million for some of American Airlines' fleet of Boeing 757 aircraft and certain related long-lived assets. AMR's Dec-2011 financial performance are as follows:

  • Total operating revenue: USD1995 million;
    • Passenger: USD1716 million;
    • Cargo: USD55 million;
  • Total operating costs: USD2723 million;
  • Operating profit (loss): (USD728 million);
  • Net profit (loss): (USD904 million);
  • Total assets: USD23,848 million;
  • Cash: USD283 million.
