American Airlines forecasts up to 8.8% rise in unit revenue in 3Q2011

AMR Corp, parent of American Airlines, expects (21-Sep-2011) unit revenue to increase 7.5% to 8.5% year-on-year for its mainline operations while consolidated unit revenue is expected to increase 7.8% to 8.8% in 3Q2011, which includes USD25 million in lower revenue due to the impact of Hurricane Irene. Cargo and other revenue is expected to increase 6.5% to 7.5%. Details include:

  • 3Q2011 forecast:
    • Traffic (RPKs): 33,882 million;
    • Mainline capacity (ASMs): 39,911 million;
      • Domestic: 23,438 million;
      • International: 16,473 million;
    • Cash and short-term investment balance: USD4700 million;
  • FY2011:
    • Traffic (RPKs): 126,868 million;
    • Mainline capacity: 155,070 million;
      • Domestic: 92,616 million;
      • International: 62,454 million;
    • Cost per ASM: +9.2% to 10.2% year-on-year;
      • Mainline: +9.1% to +10.1%;
    • Cost per ASM excl fuel: +1.3% to +2.3%;
