American Airlines expects revenues to continue to fall in 4Q2009; 31% hedged in the quarter

American Airlines stated it expects 4Q2009 revenues to continue to fall, by 4.5-5.5% year-on-year, as the carrier continues to reduce capacity amid continued weak travel demand (Star-Telegram, 18-Dec-2009). Cargo and other revenue is expected to increase 0.2-1.2%. The carrier added that it expects to end 2009 with USD4.7 billion in cash and short-term investments. The carrier has hedged 31% of its expected fuel consumption for 4Q2009.
