Amadeus sees LCCs turning to GDS

Amadeus IT Group President and CEO, David Jones, stated he was "surprised" by concerns expressed by Jetstar and Malaysia Airlines that GDS "can't handle" the growing number of unbundled products offered (Travel Weekly, 04-Aug-2010). Mr Jones apportioned some of the blame to the airlines, due to a lack of universal standards related to in-house technologies. Mr Jones also stated he believes more LCCs will use GDS to diversity their distribution model to cater for corporate and leisure markets.

Amadeus: "The fact is the different airlines around the world have not yet agreed on any set standards to do this. We are faced with dozens of airlines using different sets of standards for their own in-house technology solutions, which we the GDS have somehow got to translate into a common way to present and a common way to facilitate payment ... If there had been put in place a year ago a set of common standards, the industry would be well ahead of where it is today," David Jones, President and CEO. Source: Travel Weekly, 04-Aug-2010.
