Allegiant Air’s pilots, represented by Teamsters Local 2118, previously sought release from National Mediation Board mediation, which could have led to binding arbitration or a 30-day cooling-off period preceding a legal strike.1 The union had also escalated pressure via strike authorisation votes and practice pickets, citing demands for industry-standard pay, scheduling and quality-of-life improvements.2 3 4 Separately, the pilot group opposed Allegiant’s proposed JV with Viva Aerobus, arguing it would shift flying to Mexican crews at the expense of Allegiant pilots.5
