Airport Authority Hong Kong to develop HKIA into Airport City
Airport Authority Hong Kong, in its 'From City Airport to Airport City' report, outlined (29-May-2019) its strategy for developing Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) into an Airport City that "integrates the airport with many functions surrounding it" and "drives the economic growth of Hong Kong and the region", including:
- Development of a three runway system at HKIA by 2024;
- Enhancing the capacity of HKIA's two runway system to accommodate growth until 2024;
- Development of terminal 1 annex building, to be completed by the end of 2019;
- Expand midfield apron by 2020, increasing the number of aircraft parking stands at HKIA from 191 to 215;
- Improve business aviation facilities;
- Develop SKYCITY, a 350,000sqm retail, dining and entertainment facility located in the immediate vicinity of HKIA, by 2027;
- Establish synergies between HKIA, SKYCITY and nearby AsiaWorld-Expo facilities;
- Explore land use opportunities and airport related developments associated with Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facility. [more - original PR]
