Airlink: Supply chain accounts for 73% of costs in aid programmes

Airlink regional representative for Asia and the Pacific Claire Leow, speaking at Routes Asia 2025, reported (27-Mar-2025) the organisation supported the transport of 862 tonnes of aid and 1861 responders to 46 countries in 2024. Airlink assisted 99 non-government organisations, delivered aid valued at USD8 million and assisted more than four million people. Ms Leow noted that supply chain management represents 73% of the cost in any aid programme and 60% of aid sent is not appropriate.

Airlink formed partnerships with Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways Cargo, and Astral Aviation to enhance its humanitarian efforts. Royal Air Maroc committed to transporting 50 tonnes of humanitarian cargo to crisis-affected communities in West and Central Africa over the next 12 months, along with providing logistical support and passenger tickets for humanitarian personnel1. Qatar Airways Cargo renewed its partnership in 2022, delivering 251 tonnes of aid to 17 countries2. Astral Aviation also agreed to transport 50 tonnes of aid3.
