Airbus states Asian LCC traffic has grown 38% since 2001

Airbus CEO, John Leahy, stated Asian LCCs on average flew 1,800 kms per flight to 576 airports in 2009, compared to an average of 700 kms to 48 airports in 2001, with compound growth of 38% between 2001 and 2009 (Reuters, 05-Feb-2010/AFP, 07-Feb-2010). This is despite the overall intra-Asian market growing only 6% during the same period. The company estimates approximately 14% of intra-Asian travel is now operated by Asian LCCs.
