Airbus: Asia Pacific airlines will need 12,810 new aircraft over next 20 years

Airbus CCO customers John Leahy said (16-Feb-2016) the company forecasts passenger traffic in the Asia Pacific region will increase at an average of 5.6% p/a, contribute to a requirement for some 12,800 new aircraft valued at USD2 trillion for the region. This represents 40% of global demand for 32,600 aircraft over the next 20 years, and includes almost half of all widebody deliveries and over a third of all narrowbody aircraft. 20 year market forecast highlights:

  • Passenger traffic: +5.6% p/a (global average 4.6%);
  • Regional fleet: To expand from 5600 today to 14,000 aircraft;
  • New aircraft demand: 12,810 aircraft valued at USD2 trillion:
    • 720 very large aircraft (46% of global demand);
    • 3760 widebodies (40% of global demand);
