Air New Zealand commences trial of Assaia Apron AI technology

Air New Zealand and Assaia entered (23-Jan-2020) a partnership, alongside Auckland Airport, for the carrier to trial artificial intelligence (AI) in efforts to improve aircraft turnaround times and improve on time performance. Assaia Apron AI technology uses computer vision AI equipped cameras to capture key aircraft turn activities and to predict future operational needs. Air New Zealand programme manager for operational performance Marianita Willis reported the AI system generates timestamps, predictions and alerts that allow operational teams to proactively make improvements. Air New Zealand will continue the Assaia Apron AI system trial into 2020, with next steps to better understand the data and analytics and to further assess the technology's value to the business.
