Air Mauritius enters voluntary administration
Air Mauritius, via its official Facebook account, announced (22-Apr-2020) its board "took the decision to place the Company under voluntary administration" from 22-Apr-2020, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic (Reuters/Business Traveller/Bloomberg Law, 22/23-Apr-2020). The airline stated "travel restrictions and the closure of borders in all our markets and cessation of all international and domestic flights in an unprecedented crisis, has led to a complete erosion of the Company's revenue base", adding "in these circumstances, it is expected that the Company will not be able to meet its financial obligations in the foreseeable future". Grant Thornton partners Sattar Hajee Abdoula and Arvindsingh K Gokhool were appointed as administrators of Air Mauritius under sections 215 and 216 of the Insolvency Act, effective 22-Apr-2020. The airline is expected to continue operating services during the voluntary administration period. [more - original PR]
