Air India strike action avoided; pilot salaries to be paid

Air India reportedly stated the salary deferment issue, which resulted in Air India pilots threatening strike action, has been resolved for now (TNN, 10-Feb-2011). Early this week, Air India informed its pilots that their salaries for Jan-2011 would be paid on 14-Feb-2011 marking the third salary payment deferment after the payments were previously deferred to 07-Feb-2011 and then 10-Feb-2011. The pilots threatened to initiate flash strikes if payment was not received on 10-Feb-2011 with the carrier stating it would pay salaries on 11-Feb-2011. Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) stated the carrier procured a loan to pay the salaries.
