Air India four day pilots strike ends; high revenue loss

Air India announced the four day strike by executive pilots has ended, after reaching a compromise with management regarding a cut in productivity linked incentives (PLI) payments, including the payment of PLI on 07-Oct-09 (The Economic Times, 01-Oct-09). The carrier has recommenced bookings and expects flight operations to return to normal on 01-Oct-09. Air India estimates USD21 million in lost revenue from the strike.

Air India: "We have received official communication from the Civil Aviation Minister and he himself has assured that there would be no salary cuts. So we immediately call off the strike. We have no reason to not trust the Civil Aviation Minister. I am asking all the pilots to come back on work. We would now fully cooperate with the management. We also apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused," Captain VK Bhalla, Senior Executive Pilot. Source: IANS, 30-Sep-09.
