Air China sees restructuring as next step in China's aviation development

Air China President and Managing Director, Cai Jianjiang, stated he does not rule out possible integration of China's "big three" airlines and other domestic airlines, although no specific plan or timetable has been set (Dayoo.com, 04-Aug-2010). Meanwhile, Air China Vice President and CFO, Fan Cheng, added restructuring is the next step in the development of China's aviation industry. Mr Fan added China Eastern Airlines' introduction of Singapore Airlines as a strategic investor will not affect the carrier's operational strategy or market position. According to Mr Fan, Shanghai will remain the carrier's international gateway and the carrier will maintain its target of increasing its Shanghai market share from 12% to 15% by the end of this year. China Southern Airlines responded by stating apart from its ongoing negotiation with Air France in cargo cooperation, the carrier has no other asset restructuring, mergers and acquisitions or capital injection plans.
