Air China Chairman expects improved profitability; but still "lagging the world's top carriers"

Air China Chairman, Kong Dong, expressed optimism about the carrier's future prospects, stating he has "full confidence that we can turn over an exam paper with quite satisfactory scores to our stakeholders, thanks to China's economic resurgence and air traffic rebound" (China Daily, 28-Oct-2009). However, he conceded that the carrier is "lagging the world's top carriers", despite reporting net profitability in 3Q2009.

Air China: "Our business in October was good, and November will see surging turnover as international travelers prepare for Christmas. As for December, a traditionally lean month, we've chalked up countermeasures in advance. So, this is certainly going to be a better-than-expected year to celebrate," Kong Dong, Chairman.
