Air Astana 2011 profit down 19% on high fuel costs, net margin ahead of 10-year average

Air Astana revenue up 16% - financial highlights for 12 months ended 31-Dec-2011:

  • Revenue: USD760 million, +16% year-on-year;
  • Net profit: USD61.9 million, -19%;
  • Passenger numbers: 3.0 million, +16%;
  • Capacity: +15%.

Air Astana president Peter Foster attributed the carrier's decline in profitability to a 130% year-on-year increase in fuel prices but maintains the carrier's net profit margin of 8.1% is still ahead of its 10-year average. [more - original PR]
