ACI: Worldwid airport pax up 6.5% to over 7.7bn in 2016, growth in all regions except Africa

Airports Council International (ACI) reported (18-Sep-2017) worldwide airport passenger numbers increased 6.5% year-on-year to over 7.7 billion in 2016, registering increases in all regions except Africa. Cargo volume increased 4% to 110 million tonnes and aircraft movements increased 2.7% to 91.8 million during the period. Regional traffic details include:

  • Asia Pacific:
    • Passengers: 2.7 billion, +10.6%;
    • Cargo: 43.4 million tonnes, +5.4%;
    • Aircraft movements: 22.9 million, +7.5%;
  • Europe:
    • Passengers: 2.0 billion, +5.2%;
    • Cargo: 20.1 million tonnes, +5.0%;
    • Aircraft movements: 23.7 million, +2.1%;
  • North America:
    • Passengers: 1.8 billion, +3.8%;
    • Cargo: 30.8 million tonnes, +2.4%;
    • Aircraft movements: 31.2 million, +1.6%;
  • Latin America-Caribbean:
    • Passengers: 588 million, +1.2%;
    • Cargo: 5.1 million tonnes, +0.9%;
    • Aircraft movements: 8.0 million, -4.1%;
  • Middle East:
    • Passengers: 369 million, +9.4%;
    • Cargo: 8.8 million tonnes, +2.7%;
    • Aircraft movements: 2.9 million, +7.5%;
  • Africa:
    • Passengers: 182 million, -0.4%;
    • Cargo: 2.1 million tonnes, +1.3%;
