ACI Europe: EU airport traffic now in recession

ACI Europe reported (05-Dec-2012) EU airports are "falling into recession" with passenger numbers at EU airports declining by 1.3% year-on-year while non-EU airports saw a 7.8% increase in passenger traffic in Oct-2012. Overall European passenger traffic increased by just 0.5%. Cargo volume fell 2.2% and aircraft movements fell by 1.5% in Oct-2012. ACI Europe director general Olivier Jankovec said, "with passenger & freight traffic in the EU market recording firmly negative results, there is no escaping the deepening impact of the European sovereign debt crisis on the real economy."
