With the runway complete, Salgado Filho Airport (RS) resumes domestic flights to Salvador and Recife this Monday (16)
Closed in May due to flooding in the state, Porto Alegre airport will resume international flights from Thursday (19), reviving tourism and the economy of Rio Grande do Sul at the end of the year
Porto Alegre International Airport - Salgado Filho, in Rio Grande do Sul, resumes domestic flight operations to Salvador (BA) and Recife (PE) this Monday (16). The information was confirmed by Fraport Porto Alegre, the concessionaire responsible for managing the terminal. The return of these routes occurs after the gradual return of airport activities, which began in October.
The site has been completely closed since May, due to the flooding that affected the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, celebrated the progress and completion of the works at the airport, highlighting that the full reopening represents an improvement in the service provided to the population.
"This full recovery is the result of a lot of effort by the Federal Government, which, through MPor and Fraport, worked hard to ensure that the state's main airport could resume normal operations. We know how important the airport is for Rio Grande do Sul's GDP, for business tourism, for leisure tourism and for the flow of cargo transportation," he said.
The airport has undergone several renovations, including the paving of the runway, which is now 3,200 meters long. With this improvement, the terminal can operate 24 hours a day and is also able to handle international flights.
New Flights
Starting in January 2025, LATAM will resume routes from Porto Alegre to Lima (Peru) and Santiago (Chile). In March, Aerolíneas Argentinas will reestablish the Porto Alegre - Buenos Aires route. In addition, TAP should also soon confirm the Porto Alegre - Lisbon (Portugal) route, further expanding the options for international flights from the Rio Grande do Sul terminal.
