Win for Aussie travellers—Australia secures more flights to Fiji

• Capacity for passenger services increased by almost 10 per cent
• Air freight capacity doubled
• New services will generate increased tourism and trade opportunities.

Australia and Fiji have agreed to new air service arrangements that will substantially increase airline passenger and freight capacity between the two countries.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester said the new arrangements provide for an almost 10 per cent increase in passenger capacity, and a doubling of air freight capacity.

"Expansion of these arrangements with Fiji has been long sought after by airline and airport stakeholders and the Turnbull-Joyce government has delivered," Mr Chester said.

"This agreement is a win for Australian travellers, given it consistently ranks among the top 10 international destinations.

"The additional passenger capacity will provide more opportunities for airlines to strengthen business and tourism links between our two countries.

"Doubling airline freight capacity on the route will also allow carriers to capitalise on the significant trade and investment relationship between Australia and Fiji, valued at over $4.2 billion in 2015-16.

"This is a great outcome for both countries and we will continue to work with the Fiji Government to ensure the air services arrangements continue to meet the needs of all stakeholders," Mr Chester said.
