Wellington Airport Welcomes Boost To Singapore Airlines Service

Wellington Airport today welcomed the announcement that Singapore Airlines is increasing the number of services between Wellington and Singapore.

The airline is boosting the number of flights from four to five times weekly on the Wellington-Singapore route via Melbourne in response to increasing demand for services from the Capital.

"There has been a 37% increase in Wellington visitor arrivals from Asia and this shows how popular the services have been," says Wellington Airport CEO Steve Sanderson.

"The increase in flights will bring even more travellers from Asia into Wellington, which is great news not only for the Wellington economy but the whole of central New Zealand.

"New Zealand travellers have also benefited from greater access to Asia and the better onward connections to Europe.

"We congratulate Singapore Airlines for their first three years' service at Wellington Airport and look forward to many more."

Wellington Airport has partnered with WellingtonNZ, Singapore Airlines and travel agents in Asia on a series of overseas marketing initiatives, which have helped put Wellington on the map, and on flight information displays, says Mr Sanderson.

"Wellington is being promoted across Singapore's international network. Itineraries are being sold with either arrivals into Auckland and exiting via Wellington or arriving Wellington and exiting Christchurch."

From 1st January 2020, the new fifth weekly flight will operate from Singapore as SQ247 every Wednesday at 19:45 local time, before arriving in Wellington at 12:10 local time following a short one hour 40-minute transit in Melbourne.

The return flight, SQ248 will depart Wellington at 13:30 local time, before arriving in Singapore at 22:40 local time following a one hour and 20-minute transit in Melbourne. The additional service is subject to regulatory approval.
