Virgin Australia: Bali Flights
27-Nov-2017 The following update includes:
- Update on flying conditions and Virgin Australia operations
- Advice for guests
- Options for guests looking to change their booking
Virgin Australia is closely monitoring activity at Mt Agung in Bali. The Agung Volcano Observatory's aviation colour code is currently red, indicating that further eruption is imminent or underway with significant emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere likely.
Due to the significant volcanic ash and current weather conditions, Denpasar Airport is now closed. As a result, Virgin Australia has cancelled all flights between Bali and Australia today and Tuesday 28 November.
The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority and our team of meteorologists continue to monitor the situation in consultation with the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre.
Guests whose flights have been cancelled will be advised of their new flight details via SMS or email, or they can contact the Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89 (from Australia), 00 1803 061 2002 (from Indonesia) or +61 7 3119 7042 from other international locations. A dedicated line has also been set up for parents of Schoolies travellers: +61 7 3119 7175.
Please continue to check the flight status page virg.in/vaflightstatus for the most up to date information about your Bali flight before proceeding to the airport.
We encourage guests booked via travel agents or third parties to speak to their booking agent directly to ensure Virgin Australia has your mobile number, should we need to contact you in the event of any changes to your flight schedule.
Guests with travel insurance are encouraged to check with their insurer about their individual circumstances.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by these flight changes however we will always put safety first. We continue to closely monitor the situation in Bali and will provide further updates as they become available.
For further information on why it's not safe to fly in the vicinity of an erupting volcano and our safety processes, please see our blog here.
