Vienna Airport: 4.1% rise in passenger volume in August 2014

11-Sep-2014 The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport rose by 4.1% in August 2014 compared to August 2013 to 2,275,933 passengers. Accordingly, August 2014 showed the highest monthly passenger volume ever recorded at Vienna Airport. Total air cargo increased by 11.7%, whereas the number of flight movements was up 1.5% and the maximum take-off weight climbed by 5.9%.

In August 2014 Vienna Airport reported a 3.0% decline in the number of transfer passengers from August 2013. The number of local passengers was up 7.2% in the same period.

The number of passengers flying to Western Europe increased by 4.5% in August 2014, in contrast to the 7.7% drop in passenger traffic to Eastern Europe. The Middle East region showed an increase of 7.5% in August 2014, whereas passenger volume to destinations in the Far East climbed by 18.3%. The number of passengers flying to North America also increased, rising by 36.5% compared to August 2013.

The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG also developed gratifyingly. Malta Airport reported a cumulative passenger growth of 8.0% in the period January-August 2014 to 2.9 million passengers in the first eight months of the year. The number of passengers handled by Kosice Airport also rose by 51.2% in the same period to 258,611 passengers.
