In the past decade alone, Garuda Indonesia has flown nearly two million passengers to and from Perth.

Perth Airport has paid tribute to Garuda Indonesia on 50 years of services to Australia which has helped to establish Indonesia as a favourite destination for Western Australians.

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown said Garuda Indonesia and Perth Airport have a strong partnership.

"Western Australians have an ongoing love affair with Indonesia with its fantastic culture and attractions, and its reputation as a favourite destination for Western Australians to visit has been enhanced by Garuda Indonesia over the past 50 years," Mr Brown said.

"Indonesia is currently Western Australia's eighth largest visitor market and just last year, we welcomed nearly 34,000 Indonesian visitors, injecting more than $62 million into the WA economy.

"I would like to congratulate Garuda Indonesia on this significant milestone and I look forward to continuing our partnership to grow aviation travel between Perth and Indonesia," he said.

Garuda Indonesia, the Airline of Indonesia, serves two cities from Perth. It operates four services every week on the Perth-Jakarta route, using their 162-seat B737-800 aircraft.

It also operates daily Bali services using a B737-800.

"Indonesia is Perth Airport's biggest market and while the majority share is made up of Western Australians looking to travel to Indonesia, there's been an 8.5% growth in the number of visitors to WA from Indonesia over the past 12 months," Mr Brown said.

Garuda Indonesia was founded in 1949, only recently celebrating its 70th anniversary.
