19-Nov-2013 TUI Travel PLC ("TUI Travel" or "the Group"), one of the world's leading leisure travel companies, is pleased to announce that is has completed an order for two additional Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft from The Boeing Company ("Boeing").

  • Order for two additional Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft

  • Builds on the strategy of offering unique holidays to customers

  • Unprecedented customer feedback on currently operating 787s

  • Further enhances sustainability credentials of the fleet

The additional order takes the Group's commitment from 13 to 15 Dreamliners, with the additional two aircraft expected to arrive in 2016. TUI Travel operates six airlines, four of which operate, or will operate, Dreamliner aircraft: Thomson Airways, Arkefly, TUI Fly Nordic and Jetairfly.

The order confirms TUI Travel's commitment to Boeing as a supplier and comes following unprecedented feedback from customers flying on board the four Dreamliners currently in operation. Two more of the aircraft will join the fleet in the coming months, and will be flown by Jetairfly and Arkefly respectively. The Group has purchased the aircraft at a significant discount to the list price as a result of various concessions, allowances and support from Boeing. At current list prices, the value of two 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft is $422 million (GBP £264 million).

Peter Long, TUI Travel Chief Executive, said: "We have developed our strategy by putting the customer at the centre of everything we do. The 787 Dreamliner is another example where we have led the way by enhancing the customer experience and improving environmental efficiencies, both of which differentiate us from other tour operators. The feedback we receive from those who fly on these aircraft is exceptional and this order allows us to continue to deliver the best possible customer holiday experience - from the point customers start dreaming of their holiday until they get home."

Boeing Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing John Wojick lauded the commitment from the Group to the Dreamliner. "This order is a testament to the value that the Dreamliner has brought to TUI Travel." Wojick said. "We are proud to work with such a great partner to bring TUI Travel's passengers a great flying experience."
