Suspension of Mozambique flights

Direct News Source

Fastjet Mozambique Limitada announces the suspension of its domestic flight operations in Mozambique, effective midnight Saturday 26th October 2019.

All flights, including our code-share arrangements with LAM Mozambique Airlines to Maputo, Tete, Beira & Quelimane, shall be suspended from midnight Saturday 26th October 2019 until further notice

Customers holding bookings on flights on or after 27th October 2019 shall be entitled to a full refund.

A fastjet spokesperson explained that the decision to suspend services from the routes followed a comprehensive review of all the services being offered in Mozambique. "The decision to suspend services was only taken after considerable review, particularly given fastjet's significant commitment to Mozambique over the past two years. But the ongoing oversupply of available seats by other carriers on all routes and the negative financial impact this is having on our business means that, regrettably, this is a decision we have had to take."

However, fastjet confirmed that: "We remain committed to returning to Mozambique when the overall demand for air travel in the country has increased sufficiently in comparison to the capacity supplied to enable long-term financial viability."

The code-share agreement currently held between LAM Mozambique Airlines and fastjet Mozambique will also cease from midnight Saturday 26 October 2019. fastjet further confirmed that it is currently not selling seats on any Mozambique flights beyond 26 October 2019.

Commenting on the decision, fastjet said that "we regret the inconvenience this may have on our valued customers in Mozambique and wish to reassure them that they will be fully refunded. We would also like to recognise the tremendous support which fastjet has always had from the authorities and our travel partners in Mozambique".

The suspension of flights in Mozambique does not affect any of the operations of fastjet Zimbabwe which continues to operate services between Harare, Johannesburg, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

Mozambique customers with any queries or refund claims should contact fastjet on the following email: Customer.Mozambique@fastjet.com or their travel agent of choice.
