Samoa Airways has secured a new Boeing 737 MAX9 aircraft to fly its expanding services in mid-March.

The Memorandum of Understanding to lease the aircraft was signed today by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi, Air Lease Corporation's Executive Officer, Steven Hazy and Samoa Airways Board Chairman, Fe'esago Siaosi Fepulea'i.

The Press Secretariat says Samoa Airways will be the first airline in the South Pacific region, including New Zealand and Australia to operate the Boeing 737 MAX 9.

The aircraft has 16 Business Class seats and 173 in Economy Class with 20% more cargo and will service the National Carriers routes to Auckland New Zealand, Sydney and Brisbane, Australia.

ALC's Executive, Steven Hazy said the aircraft is not only the latest on the market but the most fuel efficient, most modern and will be an asset for Samoa Airways to remain competitive.

While the lease agreement is confidential, Hazy hinted that after months of negotiations with the National Carrier they have reached an agreement which will provide concessions for Samoa Airways to remain competitive.

The concessions include a seasonal lease package payment schedule, depending on passenger loading capacities during the slow season as well as a "maintenance honeymoon" component with Boeing that includes a training clause for the National Carriers pilots and staff.

Overall, Hazy is confident that the Government of Samoa and her people have made the right decision.

For Samoa Airways, it's a new beginning and also a great addition to the airline however Board Chairman Fe'esago pointed out that there is still a lot of work to be done in order to meet the expectations of government and the people of Samoa.

The new Boeing 737-MAX 9 will replace the 737-800 with plans to acquire a second aircraft in June, says Prime Minister Tuilaepa.

The ultimate goal is for the National Carrier to continue with her current success path and expand to other routes to serve Samoans.

The 737 MAX aircraft brings the latest technology in the 737 series. It offers incredible range and flexibility and designed to provide passengers with a comfortable flying experience.
