REX: Cheaper Airfares Cemented For Albany And Esperance

Direct News Source

07-Jul-2017 Regional Express (Rex) and the City of Albany have entered into a milestone three year partnership agreement that will see the continuation of the Rex Community Fare through until 30 June 2020. This follows a similar agreement made with the Shire of Esperance which was signed in May.

Never before have Albany and Esperance seen such incredibly low fares of $129 made possible through the Community Fare scheme. This Community Fare is available for bookings made at least 60 days prior to departure subject to availability, in addition to all unsold seats within 24 hours prior to departure.

Warrick Lodge, Rex General Manager Network Strategy & Sales said, "We have already seen 16,000 Community Fares sold just in the first full year of the trial of the scheme. This accounts for some 15% of the total passenger numbers travelling on the Albany and Esperance to Perth routes and represents cost savings of more than $1,264,000 per year for the two communities based on the prevailing average fares. We believe that the take-up rate will be even stronger in the years ahead, and this will make a significant socioeconomic contribution to the local communities and to the state of Western Australia."

"This is the first time that Rex, and for that matter regional aviation in Australia, has undertaken such a revolutionary initiative to make regional air travel really affordable for the discretionary and leisure traveller. When the State Government awarded Rex the rights to operate the Albany and Esperance to Perth routes commencing from February 2016, we said that we would do something special for the community. We are glad that we have been able to keep our promise and we hope to be able to do more in the years ahead."
