Rex Announces Community Fare And More Flights For Griffith
Regional Express (Rex) and Griffith City Council have entered into a five year partnership agreement until 30 June 2023. The partnership agreement will see the introduction of the Rex Community Fare scheme and an additional 10 weekly flights between Griffith and Sydney, adding some 17,000 seats to the route annually.
The agreement will see the introduction of a $129.00 "Rex Community Fare" which will be available on 25% of total seats between Griffith and Sydney for advanced bookings of at least 30 days prior to departure. In addition, all remaining seats 24 hours prior to departure will be available at the Rex Community Fare (Rex Promo) level.
In addition to the implementation of the Rex Community Fare, effective 29 October 2018, Rex has committed to operating one additional return flight every weekday between Griffith and Sydney that will see the current five return services each weekday increase to six return services. The increased schedule has been achieved by Rex exiting the Mildura to Sydney route and redeploying the aircraft, flight crew and Sydney airport slots to the Griffith to Sydney route. The decision to exit the Mildura to Sydney route is the result of increased airport charges imposed by Mildura airport and the commencement of the new partnership agreement with Griffith City Council. The changes will create a new flight linkage between Griffith and Broken Hill, adding benefit to both communities. (Please refer to the schedule below)

Griffith Mayor Cr John Dal Broi has welcomed the new agreement, "I'm really pleased with this new agreement, it will make air travel in and out of Griffith more attractive to residents and visitors".
"This partnership gives Rex a real incentive to grow passenger numbers, while assuring the Council of a stable income to operate the airport and offer commuters access to the community fare. I think this is a great result for Griffith and I'm sure local residents and businesses will also agree. Rex reports that the community fare scheme is working very well in other centres as people amend their travel plans to take advantage of the Community Fare".
