Record passenger numbers for London Luton Airport in 2014

• Annual passenger numbers increase 8.1% on 2013
• £100m transformation continues with confirmation of 10 new routes for 2015 A record 10.5 million passengers flew from London Luton Airport (LLA) in 2014, an 8.1% increase on the annual passenger count in 2013. The increase was due to the Airport's easy access from London and its great value air services as well as the introduction of 15 new destinations in 2014; a theme set to continue this year with a further 10 new routes already confirmed. The first of those is to Vigo, the 'Olive City', on the Atlantic coast of north-west Spain, with Air Nostrum, the second airline to open up new routes from LLA in the last two months. This news comes after the launch in December, of the Airport's vision for the future, which saw the unveiling of a fresh new identity to mark the start of its £100 million physical transformation. This development will increase annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers by 2026 and bring about a raft of improvements, including: • Major improvements to transport links, including better road access to the M1, new car parking facilities, a remodelled bus and coach interchange and improved rail links.

• More domestic, European and international destinations added to the Airport's route network.
• A major redesign of the terminal to create a quick, efficient, friendly and convenient passenger experience.
• Exciting new shopping and eating options and the development of a new world-class executive lounge. Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: "2014 was a milestone year for the Airport.
