Direct News Source

04-May-2017 Today marks the first anniversary of award-winning airline, Qatar Airways, operating direct flights between Adelaide to Doha, connecting South Australians to more than 150 destinations around the world. As the first airline to bring an A350 to Australia with its launch into Adelaide, South Australians have been quick to embrace state-of-the-art flying, with performance on the route exceeding expectations by opening up a gateway to Europe and Asia without the need to stop in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. Adam Radwanski, Senior Manager at Qatar Airways Australasia, said the airline is committed to flying in and out of Adelaide and in March announced that the 13-hour Adelaide to Doha route will be increasing to daily flights from 2 December 2017. "Since our inaugural flight on the Adelaide-Doha route in May 2016, we have had a wonderful response from passengers. We were delighted to announce in March that we were resuming daily flights on the route, providing consumers with more opportunities to enjoy our award-winning service on-board the state-of-theart A350 aircraft," said Mr Radwanski. South Australian Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell, said Qatar Airways' flights have provided a major boost to the South Australian economy. "The daily service is expected to bring an annual windfall of $41 million to the State, supporting 228 jobs, with an enormous opportunity for business and trade export to a global network," Mr Bignell said. "There is also significant demand and potential for South Australia's premium produce to fill the A350-900's, 80 tonne cargo hold capacity per week". "We are thrilled with Qatar Airways resuming daily flights. It comes at an exciting time for our tourism industry, with South Australia being named in Lonely Planet's top 5 regions to visit in 2017". Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Mark Young, said South Australians had embraced Qatar Airways' excellent product and high service levels. "Destinations across Europe from Adelaide have never been more accessible than they are now. It's a strong vote of confidence in Qatar Airways and its state-of-the-art A350 fleet," Mr Young said. Adding to Mark Young and The Hon. Leon Bignell's comments, Adam Radwanski says the airline's premium services, modern fleet and extensive network is what's attracting travellers to Qatar Airways. "Whether it's to explore ancient ruins in Greece or meet up with a cruise in Helsinki, we know that South Australians are cultured, mature travellers. I have no doubt that Qatar Airways' success in Adelaide to date has been due to our modern fleet, extensive network to over 150 destinations - of which 40 are across Europe - and the inflight and airport services offered throughout their journey," adds Radwanski. In Australia, as well as Adelaide, Qatar Airways flies out of Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, with Canberra launching as a port in February 2018.

Internationally, Qatar Airways will launch a myriad of new destinations in 2017 including Dublin, Ireland; Nice, France; Rio de Janerio, Brazil and Santiago, Chile.
