Direct News Source

13-Jan-2018 Copenhagen Airport welcomes the latest gastronomic leaders from the Copenhagen food scene as the new part of Terminal 2 is opening with 25 new shops, cafés and restaurants. The airport now reveals the 10 first restaurants to open in the new area where travelers can experience popular restaurants and bars such as Mikkeller, The Bird - Kissmeyer, Tapa del Toro and Cock's & Cows as well as international favorites such as Espresso House and Pret A Manger.

For more than 2 out of 3 travelers shopping and dining is an important part of the travel experience, and therefore Copenhagen Airport continues to expand the assortment of food and beverage offers in the coming year. This means that travelers in the airport will soon be able to taste selected specialty gin, craft beer and micro brews on tap and the 'Best burger in town' when the new area in Terminal 2 opens in June. The airport is now able to reveal the first 10 restaurants and bars that will be part of the new area, and there is something for everyone regardless of preferences in taste and budget.

"We want to offer travelers an authentic experience by offering the best from our "local heroes" - the best Danish restaurants and bars that we know from the vibrant culinary scene of Copenhagen. At the same time, we will continue being the place where travelers can find successful, international brands. Every year we conduct up to 100.000 passenger interviews and we use the knowledge we gain from these interviews to find the best mix of offers. This is why we are looking forward to the opening of the new area, which will reflect the wishes from our passengers and the impressive food scene that thrives both in Denmark and internationally," says Lise Ryevad, director of Airport Sales in Copenhagen Airport.

The best of Copenhagen in the airport

The Danish microbrewery Mikkeller is among the new restaurant names that will check into the airport later this year. They are excited to serve their specialty beers to airport guests in the relaxed surroundings that have given the brand its unique status both domestically and internationally:

"In Mikkeller we travel a lot ourselves and there is no doubt that Copenhagen Airport is one of the best airports in the world when it comes to quality - in shopping as well as gastronomy. From our perspective there are not enough opportunities to have extraordinary beer experiences and naturally we would like to contribute to this. Many of our customers are beer tourists that travel to Copenhagen to visit our bars and restaurants, so it will be a pleasure to be able to say 'hello' and 'goodbye' to them in the airport as well," says Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, founder of Mikkeller.

The popular Vietnamese restaurant LêLê, that has served Copenhageners with a tasty bite of Vietnam for over 15 years, is also looking forward to offering international travelers a Copenhagen classic:

"We are proud to become a part of the new area in Copenhagen Airport and we look forward to being a part of developing the already exciting food profile of the airport. LêLê Street Kitchen is locally rooted in Copenhagen. Still, with our concept and assortment stemming from the Vietnamese street kitchen, we have always had a global outlook. With our light, fresh and tasty meals we believe that we will be able to meet the needs of the many travelers," says Lâm Lê, CEO of LêLê.

Besides Mikkeller and LêLê the list of new additions to open in the new area include Cock's & Cows, Gorm's, Steffs Place, Retreat, The Bird - Kissmeyer, Pret A Manger, Espresso House and Tapa del Toro. The first units will open in June 2018.

Handpicked experiences from Denmark and abroad

The expansion of the new area in Terminal 2 adds 4.000 square metres to Copenhagen Airport and will accommodate 25 new shopping and eating options. The composition of the new eating and drinking units represents a handpicked mix of the leading Danish and international brands:

"We hope that the new area will be a new gathering point for travelers in the airport where different preferences are met by a wide assortment - whether you are into niche bars, a classic burger or just a quick croissant and coffee," says Lise Ryevad.

During the coming months the airport will reveal the remaining 15 brands that will open in the new area.

The new expanded area in Terminal 2:

  • Travelers spend an average of 98 minutes in the airport from finished security check to boarding.
  • 66 % of passengers shop and/or eat in the airport before departure.
  • The expansion is built in the same Scandinavian design as the rest of the airport focusing on creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
  • To create a homogeneous and modern expression the existing stores in the area will be modernized as well.
