02-Feb-2018 Perth Airport has welcomed Garuda Indonesia's announcement of a fifth flight per week between Perth and Jakarta from Friday 4 May this year.

Garuda Indonesia, the Airline of Indonesia, currently operates four services every week on the Perth-Jakarta route, using their 162-seat B737-800 aircraft. Under its new schedule, operating times will remain the same with a 4pm arrival into Perth and 5.40pm departure from Perth.

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown said the extra weekly flight acknowledges Indonesia as a key market for Western Australia.

"This additional Garuda Indonesia service will represent a 25% increase in capacity between Perth and Jakarta per year. What it means is a further 16,848 two-way seats will be available, transforming it into a route that will now total 84,240 seats per annum.

"Indonesia is already Western Australia's 7th largest inbound visitor market, and it is continuing to grow. In the 12 months ending September 2017, there was an increase of 9.3% in visitor numbers to Western Australia from Indonesia so we know there is strong demand for extra flights.

"Our airline partner Garuda Indonesia provides a crucial link for this important market," said Mr Brown.

According to Tourism Research Australia, visitors from Indonesia injected $59 million into the Western Australian economy in 2017, and on average spent about $2,000 each.

Mr Brown said the additional Garuda Indonesia service will also provide greater access for Western Australians to destinations beyond Jakarta, with good connections available to Japan, Korea and Amsterdam.

"That is particularly good news for business travellers, providing them with more travel options throughout Asia and Europe" he said.
