The Home Affairs Immigration Section facilitated the smooth movement of over three million travellers in and out of the country through the national land, sea and airports of entry between 01-25 December 2013 coinciding with the festive period.

According to the Home Affairs Movement Control system a total of 3 262520 travellers were recorded in our ports of entry for the period of 01-25 December 2013 which represents an increase of 8.32% compared to the 2012 statistics which recorded a figure of 3011935.

The efficient and effective processing of travellers through national ports of entry were enhanced by the deployment of extra Immigration personnel, increase in working hours and additional office infrastructure as directed by Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor while working together with other state agencies such as SARS, Customs, SAPS, SANDF, Health and Agriculture.

These measures will remain in place throughout the festive season and extend to cover events associated with the forthcoming CHAN2014 Soccer Tournament scheduled for South Africa from 11 January- 4 February 2014.

The top ten ports of entry which again this year recorded the high traveller movements remained OR Tambo international airport, Beit Bridge, Lebombo, Maseru Bridge, Ficksburg, Oshoek, Cape Town international Airport, Ramatlabama, Golela and Jeppes Reef. On the other hand, the top nine nationalities departing South Africa during this period were from Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, United Kingdom, USA and Zambia.
