NT Government: Another major win for Turbocharging Tourism - Jetstar announces direct Brisbane-Uluru
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss said Turbocharging Tourism delivers again for the Territory with the announcement by Jetstar today that it will commence direct flights between Brisbane and Uluru from 3 August 2018.
"The Territory Labor Government is investing a record $103 million into Turbocharging Tourism, and this announcement is another exciting win under our stimulus package," Ms Moss said.
"Part of the stimulus package is a record $10.85 million specifically for cooperative marketing campaigns with our partners to drive demand on new and current air routes. This new Jetstar service presents a significant opportunity to better serve the European, South East Asian, Chinese, Japanese and North American markets with an additional option to Uluru. The service also provides Queenslanders with a direct service.
"More tourists means more local jobs and more money into Territorians' pockets - this direct route will help deliver that.
"The new three per week service will provide domestic and international tourists unprecedented access to the Red Centre and its rich cultural experiences."
Member for Namatjira, Chansey Paech congratulated Jetstar CEO Gareth Evans on the announcement and said the new service confirmed the airline's confidence in the Territory's tourism industry.
"Jetstar's service will now provide an important new connection point for both domestic and international travellers transiting through Brisbane on the way to the Red Centre," said Mr Paech.
"Uluru attracts a 64 per cent majority of international holiday makers to the NT, reflecting its position as the primary NT drawcard for overseas tourists.
"This is yet another exciting new development for the Red Centre and we welcome this increased commitment from Jetstar."
Thanks to Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package, Jetstar becomes the second airline in a matter of months to announce new services from Brisbane to the Red Centre, with Virgin Australia to commence services to Alice Springs on 19 June.
"We continue to work closely with our airline partners to strengthen the viability of existing routes and increase demand to establish new routes," Ms Moss said.
