Now online: CO₂ Compensation via myclimate.

A further step towards climate protection: Eurowings now offers customers the option of CO₂ compensation for their flights.

Eurowings Digital today launched a platform for customers to not only calculate their flight's emissions at CO₂, but also to make a direct donation to a global climate protection project.

Once the booking has been completed or via the "Inform" section on eurowings.com, Eurowings customers can now access a calculator that calculates the respective CO₂ emissions based on the booked flight route and class. For the calculated CO₂ emissions, the website then suggests an amount that customers can either accept directly or adjust: This makes it possible to donate either more or less.

At least 80 percent of the compensation money goes to climate protection projects in Madagascar, Indonesia, Kenya or Brazil. The myclimate carbon offset projects reduce emissions by replacing fossil energy sources with renewable energy or promoting energy-efficient technologies. You can see exactly which projects are involved here.

What data is the CO₂ calculator based on?
From the Dash to the Airbus A340, all aircraft of the Eurowings and Lufthansa fleet were evaluated in terms of their kerosene emissions. The analysis also looked at complete air journeys from departure to arrival - a total of over 43,000 individual flights. Weather conditions, ground taxiing, holding patterns and detours in the air were all taken into account. Based on the results of this study, myclimate developed an algorithm that calculates the corresponding CO₂ emissions for each flight connection.
