Nexus Airlines a Game Changer for WA Tourism

Tourism Council WA has welcomed the launch of Nexus Airlines today. The Airline will commence in July flying Perth to Geraldton, Broome-Kununurra-Darwin, and regional services in the north.

"This is a game changer for WA tourism. Nexus Airlines will bring competition to regional WA giving both locals and visitors new air routes and better services," said Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall.

"Nexus Airlines has a real focus on tourism destinations such as Kununurra and Geraldton, not just mining towns. The airline will connect international, interstate and local visitors from Perth to tourism experiences in and across the north.

"Nexus Airlines routes, such as Broome to Kununurra and onto Darwin, will create new tourism itineraries for international and domestic visitors who want to see regional WA but don't have the holiday time for long distance road trips."

Mr Hall said Nexus Airlines would provide a great confidence boost for the Kimberley which has struggled with road closures due to the floods.

"Nexus Airlines will provide reliable visitor access for Kimberley tourism operators," Mr Hall said.

"WA has not had its own regional airline since the days of SkyWest."

The HM Consolidated Group which owns Nexus Aviation is an established aviation and tourism operator, including the WA Tourism Awards Gold Medal-winning HeliSpirit and Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge. The business is deeply committed to WA regional tourism.

"Regional WA tourism needs affordable quality aviation services to attract visitors to our great tourism towns across our vast State," Mr Hall said.

"While starting operations from Perth into the north of WA, Nexus Airlines has the potential to extend to the south. This would create a regional tourism network of air routes from Esperance to Broome and beyond."

Tourism Council WA congratulates the State Government, Local Governments and private Airports such as Broome for providing start-up funding and support to get Nexus Airlines off the ground.
