Mount Isa Airport: QAL offers relief for Mount Isa Air Travellers

Direct News Source

04-Sep-2017 MORE GOOD news for Mount Isa locals with Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) pledging support to help reduce airfares for travellers from Mount Isa.

"We have been working with QAL for quite some time behind the scenes, and I am really pleased to be able to announce today they will match the discounts being offered by Qantas as a percentage of landing charges", Mount Isa MP Robbie Katter said.

This is another win for our outback travellers.

"Thank you and full credit to QAL and CEO Chris Mills for working with my office on this, listening to the wider communities concerns and taking positive action", Robbie said.

"This is a good start from Qantas, but not the total solution. We haven't heard anything yet from Virgin and Rex who also operate out of Mount Isa, although Rex did proudly announce last week a quadrupling in profit from last year to this year.

"I will continue to keep pressure on the airlines and work on long term solutions for residents in regional Queensland, including asking the State Government in Parliament this week to follow Western Australia's lead and launch a full Government inquiry into airline airfares and practices in Regional Queensland.

Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills said today's announcement is a win for the local community.

"Airport charges are a small percentage of the total airfare price, but we understand that every dollar counts and have long supported the calls for reduced airfares in regional Queensland" QAL CEO Chris Mills said.

"QAL is pleased to confirm we will apply the same discount to airport charges that Qantas has announced for the benefit of the local community.

"I'd like to acknowledge and thank Mr. Katter MP for his commitment and dedication to ensuring a win for the people of Mount Isa."
