More in store at Perth Airport as Woolworths moves in

Perth Airport says the vision for a transport-oriented hub around the new Redcliffe train station is taking shape with news Woolworths will anchor a new Neighbourhood Shopping Centre.

The small shopping centre will service the expanding Airport West Retail and Office Park and provide extra convenience for commuters using the Metronet train service to and from the precinct.

Perth Airport's Chief Property Officer Steve Holden said that the new shopping centre is a great win for the local and airport community, and for sustainable development.

"Transport-oriented development is all about ensuring there is a balanced mix of residential, leisure and commercial space within walking distance of public transport," Mr Holden said.

"Airport West already has a strong corporate office presence and a high-profile retail experience with both the DFO Perth and Costco, all within walking distance of the Redcliffe station which will open next year. Just off the airport estate are suburban housing and other businesses.

"The opening of a new neighbourhood centre will maximise the benefit of the Federal and State investments in the rail project and take some of the stress of the local road network.

"This is a great opportunity to show the benefits of transport-oriented development and how it can change the way we live and minimise our impact on the environment.

"The shops will provide local jobs and shopping convenience for the people of Redcliffe and make the region an even more attractive place to live or work.

"We are also looking to complement the Woolworths supermarket with other smaller speciality shops such as a chemist and café, and potentially a liquor store, subject to relevant approvals.

"We're looking forward to working with the highly recognisable Woolworth brand which will add to the profile and desirability of the Airport West retail, commercial and office precinct.

"We are confident that the expansion will mean the area will become a location of choice for other WA businesses who are looking at basing their offices at Perth Airport."

Woolworths WA Property Manager Glen Fowler said the retailer was delighted to secure one of the key tenancies in Perth Airport's new shopping centre development.

"Our full-line supermarket will create more than 80 new jobs for the local community to build on the more than 15,000 West Australians team members we employ across the state already.

"We look forward to offering local residents, and the broader Perth community, an essential and convenient shopping experience in one of Australia's most modern supermarkets."

Located adjacent to the existing DFO and future Redcliffe Station, the 3,600m² Woolworths supermarket is scheduled for completion in August 2023. The project is expected to generate around 350 construction jobs and a further 80 ongoing retail jobs.

We are now looking for EOI from Principal Contractors for the design and construction of the new neighbourhood shopping centre.
