Massive growth at Copenhagen Airport in May

13-Jun-2013

Passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport grew by 6.6% year on year in May. The year-to-date number of travelers increased by 1,5%.

For the first time ever, passenger numbers for May rounded 2.1 million, reaching a monthly record of 2,149,697 passengers. The previous record was from 2011. The record was mainly the result of the continuing growth in the number of international passengers.

International traffic was up by 5.7%, partly due to the growth rates of Norwegian, easyJet and Vueling, and a strong start for the new SAS route to San Francisco, and a 2.0% increase in the number of transfer passengers. And for the first time in two years, domestic traffic also contributed to the growth.

"The 17% growth in domestic traffic was achieved because we now see a positive full-year effect of the domestic routes that were opened in the wake of the Cimber Sterling bankruptcy on 3 May last year. However, more capacity is still needed - not least in terms of more frequencies - for domestic traffic to reach the 2011 level," said Copenhagen Airport's CEO Thomas Woldbye.

Year to date, close to 9.2 million passengers have travelled through Copenhagen Airport, representing a 1.5% increase.
