Jetstar links Brisbane and Australia’s Red Centre
Jetstar will operate three flights per week on the new route from 3 August 2018, with 56,000 seats available on the route annually.
Jetstar has today announced new flights from Brisbane to Uluru (Ayers Rock Airport) will take off later this year, marking the first ever direct flights between the two destinations.
The low fares airline will operate three flights per week on the new route from 3 August 2018, with 56,000 seats available on the route annually.
Jetstar Executive Manager Alan McIntyre, said the airline expects strong demand from Queenslanders wanting to visit the red centre.
"Uluru is one of the most iconic destinations in Australia," Mr McIntyre said. "With Brisbane continuing to grow as one of Australia's largest tourism hubs, we are confident that our low fares will encourage more people to travel to the Northern Territory.
"Currently thousands of Queenslanders are travelling to Uluru via Melbourne, so not only will direct flights provide a lower cost link to central Australia, but also the flight time will only be around three hours.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said today's announcement was another win for Tourism in Queensland and would support up to 100 jobs a year.
"Through the Queensland Government's Attracting Aviation Investment Fund we've partnered with Jetstar to secure this new route and give thousands of tourists direct access to Brisbane from Uluru," she said.
NT Government Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss welcomed the announcement: "The new three per week service will provide domestic and international tourists unprecedented access to the Red Centre and its rich cultural experiences.
Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO and Managing Director Julieanne Alroe, said, "With more and more international visitors choosing Brisbane as the gateway to Australia, Jetstar's new direct flight to Uluru will not only meet current demand, but further stimulate tourism to this iconic destination, while making access for domestic travellers easier than ever."
Jetstar currently operates direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney to Uluru. The additional flights from Brisbane will see us offering up to 257,000 seats to and from Uluru each year.
To celebrate the announcement, Jetstar is launching a 12-hour sale with fares from $89 one way*.
An economic study conducted by Deloitte in 2016 showed the Qantas Group contributed annually $2.5 billion to Queensland's economy, and $156 million to the economy in the Northern Territory.
